The Austrian bikemaker made its foray to India with the help of Bajaj Auto which also hold 47 per cent stake in the company. Bajaj also made Chakan the base for KTM where their Pulsar ranges of bikes are built. The first offering for India was the KTM 200 Duke which was introduced in 2012 and it was an instant success. It had the performance, styling and the list of features which wasn’t offered at the time of its launch and still it doesn’t have any kind of competition. KTM cleverly used Bajaj’s low cost of manufacturing mantra which make its great value for money. The KTM bikes are also exported from India to global markets as production cost for KTM is tremendously low in India in comparison to Europe. The KTM 390 Duke was the second offering for the Indian market and it also was an instant hit, making KTM the segment leader in the 200-400cc bike market. Currently KTM has four offerings in the Indian market which are locally manufactured. KTM also shared its technology with Bajaj and the end result was the Bajaj Pulsar 200NS and later the Pulsar RS200 which is the flagship product for Bajaj. The Chakan based manufacturer is also working on its iteration of the 375cc motor from KTM that will result in the soon to be launch Pulsar CS400 and the Pulsar RS400. Taking cue from the Bajaj-KTM partnership, BMW Motorrad appointed TVS Motors to manufacture the G310R street bike that will debut by late 2016 in India.
