Here’s what works for the baby Gixxer and where it could have fared better
The Suzuki Gixxer received a complete overhaul for 2019 but retained the same engine and underpinnings from the previous-gen model. Updates range from all-new bodywork to LED lighting at the front and rear. While that’s a refreshing change and keeps the bike in fighting shape, it does set you back an additional Rs 11,271 over the price of the 2018 Gixxer SP. We’ve listed down a couple of positives and negatives of the bike which should help you make a better decision.
Fun to ride:
The Suzuki Gixxer won’t disappoint in terms of overall rideability. It’s a fun little bike with superior underpinnings like a 41mm telescopic fork, radial tyres and a brilliant chassis that holds everything together. The bike’s compact dimensions and short wheelbase (1335mm) means it’s really flickable in the corners and even in city traffic.

We had no complaints with the Gixxer’s braking setup either. They offer good bite and feel. The ABS intervention is minimal but does kick in when it needs to, especially in wet conditions.
The Gixxer’s rearset footpegs and easy to reach handlebars make for a comfortable riding posture. Besides, the bike is packaged is such a way that it can accommodate riders of all stature.
The Gixxer’s superior handling also has its own drawbacks. The bike’s suspension is setup on the firmer side and doesn’t soak up bumps as well as the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V.
Headlight lacks illumination:
While the all-LED headlight looks pretty cool, it lacks intensity. There just isn’t enough throw or spread to illuminate dimly lit roads at night.
Produces less power than before:
The 2019 Gixxer packs the exact same engine as before, but uses fuel-injection as its fuel delivery system instead of a carburettor. This also makes the bike BS6-ready. Sadly though, the motor in its current state of tune produces 0.7PS less power than the previous-gen model. It’s also 4kg heavier!
Should you buy one?
Despite its drawbacks, the 2019 Gixxer still makes a strong case for itself and it is well worth the Rs 1.02 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi) price tag. While the bike does everything well, it still isn’t good enough to match up to our pick in the segment - the Apache RTR 160 4V.
