How does the new Bajaj Avenger Street 160 stack up against the Suzuki Intruder 150? We find out

If you are in the market looking for a cruiser motorcycle and are running a bit tight on your budget, there are just two options for you: the Avenger Street 160 and the Intruder 150. We have ridden the new Avenger Street 160 and you can read our review here. But the most important question is, how does it stack up against its Japanese rival on paper?

Avenger Street 160

Intruder 150

154.9cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled

15PS at 8,500rpm

14.8ps at 8000rpm

13.5Nm at 7,000rpm

14Nm at 6000rpm

The Avenger Street 160 is displacing 5cc more, and it produces just 0.2PS and 0.5Nm of torque more than its Japanese counterpart. The 160cc motor on the Avenger Street 160 produces almost the same power as the 180cc motor which was seen on the Avenger 180! Suzuki has recently updated the Gixxer SF with an updated engine, which is fuel-injected. So, expect the company to equip the Intruder 150 with this engine sometime soon. Also, the Japanese bike maker will be launching the Intruder 250 next year, which will share its engine with the new Gixxer SF 250.

At 1405mm, the Intruder 150’s wheelbase is 75mm shorter than the Avenger Street 160. The shorter wheelbase means that it is nimbler than the Avenger Street 160. The longer wheelbase on the Avenger Street 160 means that there’s more space for the rider as well as the pillion. The Japanese cruiser is based on the same platform as the Gixxer bikes, so it has a dash of sportiness to it compared to the Avenger Street 160.

The seat height on the Intruder 150 is pegged at 740mm, 10mm more than the Avenger Street 160. At 148kg, it is 2kg lighter as well. The Intruder 150 uses fibreglass panels rather than metal as seen on the Avenger Street 160.

While both motorcycles are equipped with telescopic suspension at the front, the Avenger Street 160 gets twin shocks at the rear compared to a monoshock, which is present on the Intruder 150.

In terms of features, both motorcycles miss out on some bells and whistles. The Avenger Street 160 gets LED DRLs and a spartan-looking semi-digital instrument cluster. Whereas the Intruder 150 features LED lights at the rear and a fully digital instrument cluster. Both the cruisers are available with single-channel ABS. Also, where the Avenger Street 160 is available only with carb, the Intruder 150 gets an FI variant as well.

Rs 82,253

Rs 1.01 lakh (carb), Rs 1.08 lakh (FI)

Agreed, the Intruder 150 is significantly more expensive than the Avenger Street 160, and it justifies only a part of the premium with additional features like the LED headlamp, the all-digital instrument cluster and a monoshock. The Avenger Street 160, on the other hand, is slightly more powerful and has all the essentials at a price tag that is around Rs 20,000 less than the Intruder 150.
