Here’s some good news for all you enthusiasts who’ve been itching to make the transition from petrol to electric power. Bajaj’s Chetak, which created waves after its unveiling on October 16, will be launched in India in January 2020. The scooter is expected to be priced between Rs 1.1 lakh and 1.2 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi) with deliveries set to commence right after the launch.
Now you’re probably wondering where we got this information. Well, these details were relayed to us at the conclusion of the 3,000km Chetak Electric Yatra. The expedition covered north and west India and traversed through a number of cities before finally concluding in Pune. This unique ride was aimed at putting the scooter through its paces while measuring the claimed range of 95km in Eco mode.

This impressive range is courtesy a 4kW motor and an IP76-rated lithium-ion battery. It can be charged through a conventional 5-15 amp outlet. Bajaj will also offer a home charging station, which will be available at a normal charge. Charge times range from 4.5-5 hours for a full charge. A fast charger hasn’t been added to the mix because according to Bajaj, it deteriorates the batteries a lot faster.
For added peace of mind, the manufacturer will be providing a 3-year or 50,000km warranty. The Chetak’s battery life is rated to last around 70,000km, while its service interval is set at 15,000km.
The Chetak comes equipped with LED lights, a digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port and a start-stop button. The e-scooter also comes with regenerative braking, mobile phone charging, reverse assist and riding modes (Eco, Sport). Then there’s the Chetak app, which allows users to breeze through its functionality and ride history.
Thanks to its premium positioning, the Chetak will be sold through Bajaj’s Pro-Biking dealerships across the country. Deliveries will begin in Pune followed by Bengaluru, with the rest of the country set to follow suit.
