The wait is over! Hero has finally launched the much-awaited Xtreme 160R in India. It’s available in two variants: single disc and twin disc, priced at Rs 99,950 and Rs 1,03,500 respectively. There are three colour options to choose from: white, blue, and red. The brand has started shipping its orders out to dealer partners, which should give you the opportunity to check out the bike in person and take a test ride soon.
The Xtreme 160R comes with some segment-first features like all-LED lighting, hazard lights and a side-stand engine cut off switch. Other notable features include a full-digital instrument console and integrated pillion grab handles.
Powering the entry-level streetfighter is a BS6 compliant 160cc air-cooled engine that puts out 15.22PS at 8500rpm and 14Nm at 6500rpm. The motor uses a 5-speed transmission to transfer power to the rear wheel via chain drive. Hero claims the bike can bolt from 0-6kmph in just 4.7 seconds. Which sounds believable considering the bike only weighs 138.5kg (kerb) and produces 15.22PS. That gives it a power to weight ratio of 109.89PS/tonne.
In terms of hardware, the Xtreme 160R employs a conventional telescopic fork and a 7-step adjustable monoshock. Braking is handled by either a front disc and a rear drum setup or a twin-disc setup depending on the variant. Both come with single-channel ABS as standard. Tyre dimensions measure in at 100/80-17 up front and 130/70 -R17 at the rear.
At this price point, the Hero Xtreme 160R undercuts most of its rivals including the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Suzuki Gixxer and Bajaj Pulsar NS160. The only bike that trumps the Xtreme 160R in terms of pricing is the Yamaha FZ-Fi v3 but it isn't nearly as powerful.
