Suzuki’s all-new Gixxer is here. But how different is it from its predecessor? We find out
Suzuki has finally given its entry-level naked motorcycle, the Gixxer, a much-needed update. At Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the new Gixxer is Rs 11,271 more expensive than the previous-gen model. So is it just a mid-life update with a new design or is there more to it? Here’s an in-depth analysis of what’s different between the old and new Gixxer.
One of the most obvious differences between the 2019 Suzuki Gixxer and the previous model is the design. Thanks to the new tank extensions, the 2019 Gixxer looks much sharper compared to the older model. The updated Gixxer features a new LED headlamp, a new split seat setup and a tweaked tail section. Additionally, the new Gixxer is equipped with the same digital instrument cluster as seen on the 2019 Gixxer SF.
Receives Fuel Injection
Even though both bikes share the same engine displacement, the 2019 model features an all-new unit. The 155cc single-cylinder, fuel-injected motor is the same as seen on the Gixxer SF. This motor belts out 14.1PS at 8000rpm and 14Nm of torque at 6000rpm, paired to a 5-speed gearbox. Compared to the previous-gen motorcycle, the power output is down by 0.7PS.
Gains Size & Weight
Apart from the cosmetic updates, Suzuki has tweaked the dimensions of the new Gixxer as well. For instance, at 1335mm, the wheelbase is now 5mm shorter than before. It is also 30mm shorter, 15mm wider and 5mm taller. Additionally, at 140kg, the new Gixxer is 4kg heavier than the previous-gen motorcycle. The extensive design changes could be one of the reasons for the rise in weight. Also, at 795mm, you sit 15mm higher from the ground compared to the older bike.
Same underpinnings as before
On this front, the new Suzuki Gixxer remains identical to its predecessor. It’s equipped with the same conventional suspension setup (telescopic fork up front and a monoshock at the rear) as the older model. Stopping power comes from disc brakes on either end, aided by a single-channel ABS unit, which remains identical as well.
