From the Honda Hornet 160R to the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, here are some of the quickest bikes we’ve tested which don’t cost a fortune

With the advancement in technology, there has been a huge influx of two-wheelers capable of bringing a smile without breaking your bank. Plus, these can come in handy for many other applications, amongst which the daily grind is one key aspect. Thus, if you are on the lookout for such motorcycles, here are the top 5 quickest bikes we’ve tested so far.

5) Honda Hornet 160R

  • Price - Rs 86,182 (Std)(All prices here are ex-showroom Delhi)
  • 0 to 60kmph - 5.08 seconds
  • 0 to 100kmph - 15.99 seconds

You’ll be surprised to know that the Honda Hornet 160R packs the same engine as seen on the CB Unicorn 160. However, to make it more fun and appealing for the youth, Honda has tweaked the powerplant to extract more juice out of it. As a result, its 163cc single-cylinder motor delivers 15.9PS and 14.8Nm of torque, 1.4PS and 0.2Nm more than the Unicorn 160. This translated into 0 to 60kmph being achieved in just 5.08 seconds, while 0 to 100kmph takes 15.99 seconds. In day-to-day grinds, you’ll find the engine to be a high-revving one where one needs to feed in the revs for the power band to kick in.

4) TVS Apache RTR 160 4V (Carb)

  • Price - Rs 86,145
  • 0 to 60kmph - 5.04 seconds
  • 0 to 100kmph - 15.36 seconds

Perhaps one of our favourite motorcycles of 2018, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V picks all the positives of its elder sibling, the RTR 200 4V, and brings it down to the highly competitive 150cc-160cc segment. Hence, you get top-shelf features, sporty design and segment-leading performance numbers. It packs a 159.7cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine which makes 16.5PS of power and 14.8Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. While these numbers may seem humble, it helps the bike sprint from 0 to 60kmph in 5.04 seconds, while 0 to 100kmph takes 15.36 seconds.

3) Hero Xtreme 200R

  • Price - Rs 89,900
  • 0 to 60kmph - 4.98 seconds
  • 0 to 100kmph - 14.92 seconds

Things aren’t impressive on paper for the Hero Xtreme 200R. Its 199.6cc single-cylinder air-cooled motor is the least powerful in its segment, producing only 18.4PS of power and 17.1Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed transmission. However, in practice, the Xtreme 200R feels reasonably quick, with 0 to 60 kmph achieved in 4.98 seconds while 0 to 100kmph is done in 14.92 seconds. Surprisingly enough, the motor feels extremely smooth but there is a tone of gruffness to it. So much so that you’ll rarely realise how fast you’re going until you look down on the speedometer.

2) Bajaj Pulsar NS 200

  • Price - Rs 1,00,370
  • 0 to 60kmph - 4.86 seconds
  • 0 to 100kmph - 12.58 seconds

Yes, the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 is just a bit pricier than our Rs 1 lakh cap here, making it the costliest bike on this list. However, it does manage to make up for it, sort of. Powering it is a 199.5cc single-cylinder engine, churning out 23.5PS of power and 18.3Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed transmission. This makes it the most powerful bike on the list as well. Here, the 0 to 60kmph sprint achieved in 4.86 seconds. Meanwhile, 0 to 100kmph is done by 12.58 seconds, making it the quickest motorcycle to reach triple digits on our list.

This is thanks to the Pulsar’s six-speed transmission, allowing you to stay in the power band longer, as the gear ratios are a lot closely stacked when compared to the 5-speed gearbox on the RTR. Not to mention, the Pulsar feels more relaxed on the highways compared to the RTR 200.

1) TVS Apache RTR 200 Race Edition 2.0 (Carb)

  • Price - Rs 97,340
  • 0 to 60kmph - 4.02 seconds
  • 0 to 100kmph - 13.05 seconds

The TVS Apache RTR 200 Race Edition 2.0 has a lot of things going for it. Be it the sporty design, the premium set of features or its respectable price tag. But that doesn’t mean the company has made any compromises in the performance department. While it may still pack the same 197.75cc, single-cylinder engine making 20.5PS  and 18.1Nm as before, mated to a 5-speed gearbox, the performance numbers are something to look at. It darts off the line, with 0 to 60kmph achieved in just 4.02 seconds while the 100kmph mark in achieved in 13.05 seconds. All this is achieved while being responsive, refined and vibe-free in the city, so kudos to TVS for that.
